Foothills Commercial Builders Completes Jelly Café in Capitol Hill

Denver, CO (OPENPRESS) November 15, 2011 -- The newly built Jelly Café at 600 E 13th Ave in Denver, CO wins the Mayor’s Design Award in the Oh, Pioneers! Category. The 17 award winners were announced on October 26, 2011. Awards were given in categories that included What Goes Around Comes Back Around, The Past is Present, Main Street Transformation, Home is Where the Art is, Many Shades of Green, and Buildings That Beckon. According to the announcement on the city’s website, “The annual Mayor’s Design Awards celebrate the growing number of Denver’s homeowners, small business owners and developers who have made design excellence a priority in their community.”

Jelly Café, once an old cleaners in Capital Hill, underwent a major design-build renovation with Foothills Commercial Builders acting as the general contractor, and jigsaw design the architect. The $300,000 project includes a kitchen upstairs and kitchen, office, and employee restroom in the basement. Additional construction highlights include an extra-large grease trap in the basement, additional storefront windows, and all new mechanical, plumbing, and electrical services. The patio was recently covered with awnings by owners Josh Epps & Christina Smith, allowing for additional outdoor seating during the summer months.

John Rebchook, with Inside Real Estate News writes, “The lively and colorful façade of this neighborhood breakfast and lunch spot on the southeast corner of 13th and Pearl is testimony to the importance of cool urban places, living streets and imaginative owners. Despite narrow sidewalks, concrete barricades and zooming one-way traffic, Jelly is helping transform 13th Avenue into one of Denver’s most engaging urban corridors.”
